Underage Cats
By Neil McKay

Underage cats, can’t hold their liquor,
Kick off their fur, play hide-and-pounce,
Naked, in the all night cornfield.

Underage cats, clearly colorblind,
Engage in black and white arguments
With ears flattened, tails switching.

Underage cats, new at the game,
Unsheath their claws
Take turns killing each other.

Underage cats sing bawdy campsongs,
Tell true ghost stories,
Huddle together against the night.

Old cats turn in early,
Spend their nights as they spend their days,
Sleeping, pacing, sleeping, pacing.

Underage cats watch the sun rise,
Go home with each other to groom and sleep,
Leave the cornfield littered with mouse heads.
